Best Layed Plans...

Last week, a group of us headed down to the Botanical Gardens at Zilker Park for a peak a their DinoLand exhibit. Kaelan was pretty stoked about seeing all the dinosaurs, but sadly, we arrived at the park only to find that the park was closed that day in order to set up for a big weekend event showcasing the Dino exhibit.....this was not posted, not on the web site (I don't care what you say bossy, mean Park Lady in your fancy golf cart, cruising around informing people they could not get in....I digress)....I joined an angry mob of parents and tots outside the gates wanting to know why the public was not informed of the decision to close on a perfect Friday afternoon.

Anyhow, after gathering my serenity.....and my crying toddler, we all made the decision to join the other 2,ooo or so moms and tots over at the play area in Zilker. It was really crowded, and I had to shatter my child's dreams once again when we couldn't get tickets for the train (sold out). However, once the kids got to playing, all was good in the world.....perhaps our best layed plans weren't in the cards......

After all, if we had gone to DinoLand, we wouldn't have had time to take a sweet nap with Summer after a pleasant picnic by the water:

How sad we would have been to miss an exploration trip down to the water's edge and the opportunity to stick our hand and shoes in that ooey gooey green stuff growing on the rocks!

Oh, and how about that great hike with the gals......all the way up to the top of that huge mountain of dirt? Who would want to miss out on that? The memories will live on forever in those stained white pants.....

And can you ever go wrong with swings? So you see, when life gives you lemons....just find swings and water....all will be sweet lemonade!

Potty Talk

Recent discussion while going by a construction site.

Kaelan: Mommy, what is that smell? Is it coming from that blue little house thing over there?
Mommy: Yes. Remember when we had to go in one of those when we were at a running race that time? It has a potty in it.
Kaelan: Oh...you mean that potty thing that had the big, scary hole and the yucky blue stuff in it? That place did stink, and I was scared...I member.
Mommy: Yep, that was the one. Sometimes they do stink...I don't really like them either.
Kaelan: Mama, what do you call those potty things?
Mommy: They are called "Port-a-Potties".
Kaelan: Oh, that is sad...POOR Little Potties. Do they call them that because they stink so bad? I think that is sad, too. Poor Little Potties.

Now every time we pass one, we hear a sad sigh and a little mumble of "Poor Little Potty".

Birthday Girl

Overdue, but here are some highlights from Kaelan's 3rd Birthday!
The day started off with a special birthday breakfast prepared with love for a sleepy-headed, wide-eyed birthday princess.
Next, came the traditional birthday dance with dad....Pardon Dad's hair and attire in the video.....he was mowing the lawn right before....that is the only time he is allowed to wear his "Vote for Pedro" shirt.

The party was a "kitty party", so Kaelan was decked out like a cute little kitty. Later she finished off the look with a great face paint job by Kiwi the Clown...who was actually Kiwi the Kitty for the day.

(seen here with the other two amigos)

The kind folks from "Street Cat Rescue" brought two very friendly cats to visit and fulfill Kaelan's need to love on a kitty. We set up a donation bowl for the cats and asked friends to donate money for the cats instead of bringing gifts.

There were kitties everywhere.......most walked on two legs.

Kaelan and Darian cats.

There are a lot more party pictures to share.....perhaps a montage is in the air!

Happy Birthday, my sweet, sweet little Cuddle Muffin! Mama and Daddy love you!

Out with the old, in with the new...

The Old:

Dearest Mizunos-
I am writing you to thank you for your years of service. You have done a fabulous job of cushioning and therapeutically supporting my feet in the last few years of running, but the time has come for me to place you on early retirement on the closet shelf. This is in no way tied to your performance level....you continue to do a fabulous job caring for my tootsies on my jogging outings. This decision is based purely on the fact that my lovely D took it upon himself to hook me up with some really cool Nike + iPod shoes that well.....honestly blow you out of the park in technological advances. Sure, you offer the comfort in having conformed to the exact shape of my freakish feet over the years, but do you have a chip built into your insole that can monitor distance, pace, time and progress...all while playing your favorite downloadables from iTunes?? I think you understand my reasoning......

This is not a forever goodbye....I fully intend to pull you out of the closet for those short runs that won't require workout mixes. I would like to offer my sincere thanks for your loyalty and servitude....and if these newbies don't improve my cotton pickin time in the least, don't worry.....I will kick them to the curb and run barefooted back to you.

Sincerely-

S

The New:

Sweet.....
