A few nights back, Kaelan decided she would "mow" the lawn with her bubble mower. It was a decently cool evening, so Doug and I agreed to let her do her thing and sit out on the porch while she slaved away. A few laps into mowing, Kaelan gave a sudden jolt and looked at us with a most puzzling face. I watched as she bent down several times and eyed the bottom part of the mower. Finally, she called out, "Mom, my mower is stuck on somping!" Figuring she had probably run over a rock, I told her to just pick up the 2lb machine she was handling and continue on. "Oh," she said, as if that had not occurred to her to be an option. She bowed her knees and and made a face often made by pro wrestlers when they lift their opponents over there heads for a great body slam and prepared to lift the mower off the obstacle. Suddenly, she let out a horrendous scream and flew backwards a few feet. I jumped up and began running towards her afraid that this toy mower had somehow taken on the life of "Lawnmower Man" or something, and was attacking my child. Much to my surprise, and even more to Kaelan's, a HUGE frog came leaping out from beneath the mower. Bubble juice slimed down his back, and he looked a little agitated, but overall he was in good shape for having just been pinned by a mower. Kaelan was surprised and thrilled, and she spent the rest of the evening hopping around after the critter.
Since that night, we have had several froggy friends come to visit, so it has become a night time ritual to go frog hunting. We hope our frog friends never meet our lawn dude's mower....no bubble juice in there!
