Daddy/Daughter Dance 2010

Dad to Kaelan: Seriously, kid, you better move out before you hit the prom years.
Kaelan: Why, dad?
Dad: Because if your mom is this camera crazy for the Daddy/Daughter dance, you are in trouble.
Kaelan: You are right, dad. We should move out before we go to the prong (prom).
What is the prong?
I'll admit, I went camera crazy, but come on.....look at that little polka dot princess. Don't you just want to squeeze those little cheeks?
As usual....we have no actual dance pictures. It seems these things are a lot like Moose Lodges....we moms can look in from the outside. We can hear the music....but we are not allowed to enter or take photos. Instead, dad payed a million dollars for some really awful pictures (the only way to document the dance). Maybe I will show you those another day, but for now....enjoy the free ones that mom took.
I will close by telling you that I am certain Kaelan will not be attending prong (prom) with her dad, but I AM certain the picture taking will be just as out of control.

Someone Stole My Valentine

There's a gorgeous dirty blond bombshell that has entered my life and stolen the heart of my beloved. She has it all looks, a heart of gold, and eyes that could melt you and increase the rage of global warming. All those many Valentine's Days full of chocolates and flowers and stuffed animals orbiting me as their primary gravity force are no more. Nope. It is all about the new little gal.

And I am totally cool with that.

For years, I have begged Doug not do buy into the hype and give me cheesy cards and candies just for the sake of meeting the Valentine's demands. I'm a practical girl. I seriously despise stuffed animals....I have a firm belief they can take over you life if you are not careful. I'm not much of a chocolate girl, and flowers....while they are quite lovely, they die. And they leave you a smelly vase and dead, wilted flowers to dispose of. Besides, I think I have met my flower quota. When Doug and I first started dating, he bought me dozen roses every week for almost a year. His rule of thumb was, "I will replace the old ones with new before they begin to wilt". Sweet, but I remember my mom saying, "Tell him no more flowers unless he wants to plant you a garden. I think I am developing allergies."
Jewelry is never bad, but I am quite picky about what I really like, and I am perfectly happy with my wedding ring and my Claire's earrings.
So, Doug has resorted to asking me if there is anything special I desire weeks before Valentine's Day. Last year, I asked for a new self rinsing mop bucket (I know what you saying, romantic huh?), but Doug absolutely refused to get one for me. Instead he settled on another wish list item and got me some new ear phones for my iPod and some awesome new running shoes. JACKPOT! Now that is my idea of a great gift that says I love you. Doug said buying those things made him feel like a bum.

But...things are much better for him now that we have a little Valentine to spoil. All those teddy bears holding tiny hearts of I Love You no longer call my arms home....instead, Kaelan gets the honor.

Yep....someone has stolen my Valentine.....

And I am totally cool with it.

Cloudy with a Chance of Sausage Balls

After a crazy week of lots of running and lots of company, Kaelan and I finally found ourselves alone and at home for the afternoon. Seconds after closing the door on friends over for the day, Kalean began belting out, "We've got the whole house to ourselves. We've got the whole house to ourselves!"
I think our busy schedules have not awarded us this luxury lately, and it felt rather nice to embrace it. The cold and cloudy weather warned us to stay indoors.
"What should we do?", I questioned the ruler of the roost.

Kaelan gave me a knowing smile, "Hmmmm....we should make sausage balls!"

Not the answer I was expecting, but really....is there ever a wrong time to make sausage balls?
And so make sausage balls, we did.

Let me just explain that center shot. Kaelan decided she was going to document her cooking with pictures today, so I allowed her to set the camera up and take timed pictures. That winning shot took place just as I was telling Kaelan not to touch anything with her bacteria infested hands AND just as I bumped the camera and it tumbled to the floor. Yikes!

**Disclaimer-no cameras, animals or small children were injured during this post, and no one was infected with bacteria.**

Winner!

Awesome!
Thanks to the folks (Jaynie) at jayniemoon for the soap and lotion! I am Cause I Said So....and yes, I now have to eat my winnings and submit a picture (that whole thinking before you comment is a smart concept)!
I'm feeling lucky, people......off to buy some lotto tickets.

Merry Christmas! (Just ignore the fact it is February!)

Little delay. Sorry about that.

To My Seester,
I promised more "whole family" photos to you and I fully intend to get those to you someday....think August.
Love,
S

Say My Name, Say My Name.

Kaelan approached me with a look of concern and we engaged in the following conversation:

K: Mama, tell me again, what is my name in the middle?

Mom: Do you mean your middle name?

K: Yes. Yes. That is the one of which I want. (Note to self: Too many Star Wars Saturdays with dad. The Yoda talk is back.)

Mom: Really? You don't remember?

K: I kind of do, but I kind of forgot. I know! Stand up and put your hands on your hips like this (demonstration) and say my name like I am in trouble. Just say KAELAN!!!!! like that.

Mom: Okay (laughing and not getting the connection).

Mom stands and assumes the position.

Mom: KAEL.....

K: It's Brynn! It's Brynn! I knew if you said my name like I was in trouble I would remember! You always call ALL my names when I am bad. Thanks, mom!
